Fabric, Paper, Thread, Light

The idea of what makes a home and the “unseen” fascinates me. Growing up, I never felt a sense of home or belonging anywhere, whether that be geographically or culturally. This could be because my family moved constantly or because I come from a multicultural background yet do not feel a part of either American or Peruvian culture. My home life was very tumultuous and scary a times, though to the outside world it seemed “normal”. Today, as I attempt to build myself a home from the ruins of my childhood, I think about those that helped me find a sense of home. This piece serves as an act of resilience. While recognizing that my upbringing was painful, I am able to have gratitude for where my past has brought me today.
