Solo el pueblo salva al pueblo. Only the people save the people.

Flor works and organizes with Presente! Maine, a grassroots organization which works to empower displaced indigenous and afro-Latinx peoples of Maine through survival programs, community power building, cultural celebration, and transformative healing practice. There she co-lead the Food Brigade project, a food survival program and the Cuidado Colectivo Program, a youth recreation day program.

Our current food system is built upon land theft, genocide of indigenous people, and the exploitation of Black and brown labor. We continue to be displaced from our ancestral lands, as big agriculture and free trade agreements drive out the local farmer, crush our economies, and create desperation-fueled violence. We believe that we have a fundamental human right to home and to be in direct relationship with the land and our food. At Presente we want more than access to food, we want to vision and shape new ways of cultivating food and getting it to our community. We want to create our own reality that includes having direct access to healthy, culturally nourishing foods that bring us in closer relationship to ourselves, the land and our community. We have an experimental farm in Greene, ME where we have been re-learning our indigenous ways of stewarding land and growing food. We are in our third growing season as of 2022, and have cultivated thousands of pounds of food that have been distributed for free to our community. No barriers. No questions asked.
